About Mark J Dunn
ABOUT MARK J DUNN Mark was born in Akron, Ohio on September 8th 1963. His interest in photography began at a very early age. He enjoys the starkness of working with black and white spending hours in darkrooms perfecting his craft. He took that initial knowledge using it as a springboard to what his work has become today.
Mark credits his artistic inspiration from his parents John and Ruth Dunn and his husband Russ Smith. Professionally his influences have been from Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Peter Max. In Mark's own quote " Expressing distinctions between worlds of contrast brings understanding to our own. To understand our own is when we truly love ourselves "
Mark brings his personal philosophy of the Universal Laws of Attraction into a discipline that begs for contrast. Mark has had the opportunity to travel around the world, camera in hand, exploring new cultures that hopefully culminate in that perfect light falling on that perfect subject at shutter speed. His artistic intent is to bring forth usual information and concepts of contrast in it's simplest form for a a correlation that people see in their everyday lives.
Mark combines his love for photography with his fascination of contrasts. A nuanced shadow turns to a beautifully manipulated contrast. No matter how staggering the subject matter Mark finds a way to break them down into simple devolving elements with spectacular results. Mark takes the adage " it's all there in black and white" and leaves us to question, is it really?
