Mark Dunn is an artist that strives to evoke emotion through contrast. While at first glance atmospherically you think the subject matter is cohesive and not contrasting with the seriousness of the sky and prevalent elements. However Mr. Dunn is clever enough with his justification of the environment and subject matter to transform a "Monument to a Fireman", in one of the oldest cemeteries in New Orleans, to a visual that demands pause and deliberation.
Mark's capturing of Charles Orleans's design of the Fireman's Monument juxtaposes a cluster of Gothic arches crowned by a steeple with the moodiness of a relentlessly changing sky. This work requires the observer to reflect on one's place in the order of contrast.
